Autumn Budget 2026 and what it means for you

Autumn Budget 2026 and what it means for you

29 October 2026

A Budget of many small measures rather than a few large ones.

The Chancellor spoke repeatedly of giving families and businesses “breathing space”, and there is genuine help here: support with energy bills, a more generous Trading Allowance, a higher minimum wage and no change to the headline rates of Income Tax, National Insurance or VAT. Click here to read our Budget Report.

But breathing space is not the same as standing still. Almost every measure in this report has a date attached, and most of those dates fall in April 2027 or later.

There are three planning points worth considering before April 2027:

  • 1. If you own a business you may sell within the next few years, look at the Business Asset Disposal Relief change now. The lifetime limit halves on 6 April 2027 and rushing a contract in March will not necessarily protect the current position.
  • 2. If you have savings outside an ISA, or you let property, work out what the higher Income Tax rates will cost you and whether you want to revisit your savings and property portfolio plans.
  • 3. If you employ people, check that your payroll is ready for a range of benefits going through the payroll from 6 April 2027.

Much of what was announced still has to pass through Parliament, and some of it is still out for consultation. The detail may change, but the direction is clear, and the best time to plan is while you have the room to do it.

Please get in touch if you would like to talk any of this through.
